The Illustrated Children’s Ministry team is working hard at producing your resources for Advent 2017. Since many of you are already planning (nice job!), we wanted to make sure you knew what we were going to have available for you to purchase. Below is a list of what we will be releasing this fall, with a brief description and a release date. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact us here.
What’s Coming for Advent 2017?
2017 Advent Coloring Posters • Release Date – October 17 (order by November 3)
We’ll be sharing a lot more information in the coming weeks, but we are very excited about this year’s Advent Coloring Posters. We will launch the posters on October 17, and you’ll have until November 3 to purchase your posters and guarantee that they will arrive before Thanksgiving. Last year, over 1,000 communities colored our posters and had really creative and meaningful intergenerational programs. It was so fun for us to see all the photos of people coloring together during Advent. We still have digital versions of our previous sets of coloring posters available to download and print (you can find some here), but if you are looking for our high-quality physical coloring posters that we will ship to you, you’ll want to wait for the release of our 2017 Advent Coloring Posters. Below you can see a preview of the first four completed posters (click on the image to see a more detailed version).
Some people have asked about the theme for the posters (and the devotional guide – which is described in more detail below), and we wanted to share with you what our thinking is at this point. We’re primarily focusing on the scripture passages from the Revised Common Lectionary (although, we did swap the Week 3 and Week 4 passages to make more sense for the posters). Below are the theme words for each poster and the primary scripture passage focused on:
- Poster 1: KEEP AWAKE (Mark 13:24-37)
- Poster 2: PREPARE (Mark 1:1-8)
- Poster 3: DO NOT BE AFRAID (Luke 1:26-38 – technically the fourth week’s Gospel text)
- Poster 4: MY SOUL MAGNIFIES THE LORD (Luke 1:46b-55 – actually a passage from the fourth week as well, but it is also an alternate reading for the third week)
- Poster 5: The Christmas Story Illustrated (Luke 2:1-14, (15-20))
- Poster 6: The final 6th poster will be one that can be worked on after Christmas, through Epiphany and into the new year. It will be an interactive poster (beyond just coloring it), encouraging participation among the members of your community.
2017 Advent Coloring Posters Devotional Guide • Release Date – October 17
We’re also trying to learn and listen to our community, and something we learned last year, was that people really appreciated having a devotional guide to go along with our Stations of the Cross Coloring Posters. So we’re going to be offering a devotional guide to go with our Advent Coloring Posters this year. You can expect to find devotions that connect with the different coloring posters, and invite exploration, creativity, and reflection as people are coloring. This is new for Advent this year, and I hope you’re as excited about it as we are.
Illustrated Worship Resources • Release Date – November 7
We will be continuing to release our Illustrated Worship Resources (our illustrations and worship bulletins) later this fall, but in addition to the normal product, we will also be offering an Advent-only edition. For those who haven’t used our Illustrated Worship Resources before, this is a great way to try them out during Advent. Or maybe you have something you already use in place of our bulletins, but you want to have something special during Advent – this would be a great option for you. You can see last year’s example here (the only difference is that we will not be having an option for the Narrative Lectionary this year).
An Illustrated Advent for Families (2017) • Release Date – November 7
Some of our most popular products are our family devotional packs that we create for Advent and Lent. Last year we had over 400 purchases of our Illustrated Advent for Families, and we are even more excited about the edition we’re coming out with this year. It will include family devotions and activities for each week of Advent, and another one for Christmas Day. There are coloring sheets, activity sheets and it is filled with fun and creative ways to make the season meaningful for families. When we get closer to releasing it – we will have a sample that you can download and preview. However, if you’d like to get an idea of the quality of the product, you can download a free sample of last year’s edition here. But please keep in mind, this is the 2016 edition, and we are releasing a new edition on November 17.
We hope that is helpful as you begin your Advent 2017 planning. We’ll update this page with links and more information as it becomes available, but hopefully this is enough to help you get started.
